This is "my church." I came to this church as a pre-teen, when the Pastor now was just the youth pastor then. I loved this church! We lived on the same street as another family that came to this church and I'm sure that's probably how we ended up there also. That family became one of the biggest influences in my life. I loved them! The Thompson's lived at the end of Twin Hill Rd. and had 3 children, twins, David & Danielle and the youngest Cassandra. My sister became friends with Danielle in school and when we discovered we lived just 2 houses up the hill from them, we were at their house all the time! Aron & Karen Thompson became a second home to us. Especially in the summer. Mrs. Thompson drove a transportation car for the school so she was off during the summer with her kids (little did she know my sister and I would also be tagging along for most of the summer fun) she took us to the pool in Greenville at the hotel that smelled like incense a couple times a week, we would ride our bikes down to their house and sit on the front stoop and wait for them to get home. She treated us like we were her own children! On Wednesday nights we would walk down Twin Hill Rd, onto Old White Hill Rd and walk to church (she would follow in the car) and that's where I learned about Jesus and looked up to the youth in my class.
We moved away from Twin Hill Rd. when I was getting ready to go into the 9th grade. I was devasted to leave White Hill Church and The Thompson's but not the situation we were leaving. Fast forward to way into adulthood. One Sunday I'm sitting in my bed looking for an online sermon to listen to because honestly, I just didn't feel like going to church that day. When I stumbled across David Chappell and White Hill Church. I listened to that sermon and was like YES! that's where I want to go to church. So the following Sunday that's just what I did. Drake, Charley & I loaded up and went to White Hill Church and wouldn't you know, there was Dave (now the preacher) his parents, Jim & Sharon and the best of all, The Thompson's. Now all married with families of their own. We were welcomed with open arms and most of the people there still remembered me! I couldn't believe it! I knew God put that sermon on my phone that day and that this was the church I was meant to be at.
We still attend White Hill Church every Sunday (or more Sunday's than not I should say) and it still feels like exactly where I'm supposed to be! If you don't have a church home, you're welcome to sit in the back with me any time!
Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,
McKession
