Detours

Thursday afternoon, the kids and I decided to take a ride. We went to Lexington and came back home on 39. I hate that road because it's so windy and feels like it takes forever, but we were just riding. When we got into Rockbridge Baths, there is this old swinging bridge beside the post office. They put Christmas lights on it and turn them on around Christmas and I just love it. So I said "Hey, ya'll want to go across the swinging bridge?" We have never been across it. We turned around and parked beside the post office, there was a Grandma there with her grandchildren and they were swimming in the river. Ahh, the memories of my Nana sitting in her lawn chair in the middle of the river behind her house while my sister, myself, and my cousin Drew played.  We walked down and got on the bridge. The sign on the bridge says don't run as it would cause the bridge to sway (and the bridge is maintained by VDOT). Charley went first, then Drake. Let me tell you about Drake. He doesn't like heights or things that move in mid air. We laugh at him, but I get it. We went to Tennessee in December and walked across the Sky Bridge and he didn't like the ski lift up or the bridge. So I did kinda laugh a little when Drake got on. Noah and I followed Drake. Of course, I carried him. That was interesting, because the further I got, the more the bridge started to sway. I was walking fast by the time I got to the other side, LOL. Then we walked down this gravel road with beautiful houses lined on the other side. We may or may not have been looking for another way across the river. When we got almost to the end of the road, we turned back and went back across the bridge, this time Drake went first and got to the other side before Noah & I even got on the bridge and Charley went last. She waited for all of us to get across so she could come by herself. It was a simple thing, but a fun memory for us. I hope they remember the times we took a detour or did something on a whim. Those are usually the best memories. Although, I have last minute vacation memory that was horrible and the boys, Garrett and I still laugh about it. That's another story for another day.

Take the detour, it will be worth it.

Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,

McKession
