The Bridge Between

Last first day of school

He loves the beach

Noah loves Drake

On Monday my middle son Drake turned 17 😀. When I look back over the last 17 years sometimes I can't believe how fast it has gone by and other times it feels like its taken forever to get here. Drake is my child that will push every single limit just to see how far he can get before I lose my mind. He is also my child that made me a more attentive mom. The parenting books would call that being a helicopter parent, I guess they are right. That's another thing on my list of things to work on. I'm a work in progress in case you haven't figured that out yet. Drake is such a diverse young man. He can love me and hate me all in the same conversation. When  he finds something that he loves, he loves it with all he has.  When there is something he doesn't want to do, you will drag him kicking and screaming to get it done. He's got a big heart, he's an onion, you have to peel him back a layer at a time. He doesn't show you that side of him and God help the woman he marries. He will love her like none other, but he will be hard to handle some days.  Drake and I used to butt heads A LOT! I would ask him to do something and he would sit there until he felt ready to get up and do it, by this time, my head is spinning around on my shoulders because I wanted him to get up and do it when I asked him. He's always marched to the beat of his own drum. I've made LOTS of mistakes raising Drake, a lot of times I haven't given him the benefit of the doubt when I should have and vice versa. Thankfully he has matured over time as all kids do and I can depend on him. He's still a typical teenage boy, don't get me wrong. So as we celebrated Drake's birthday I am so so grateful for how far he and I have come. I know God has big plans for him. I pray each day he will listen for that still small voice and always know how much he is loved.

Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,

McKession
