Today the little kids and I went to visit my Nana. She is at Summit Square for rehab after falling and breaking her hip on September 20th. She did NOT want to go there; however, my mom just had her gallbladder removed on September 11th and could not help with rehab due to lifting restrictions and my Uncle Bubbi still works. The Dr. thought this would be best for Nana, so that's where she is for now. The kids and I took her a milkshake (she loves ice cream and would eat it for every meal.) She's walking pretty well on a walker and is doing her rehab like she's supposed to. This week she will practice steps and getting in and out of the car. She broke her left him and told my mom she could get in the driver's seat and drive herself home. I cracked up laughing, my mom did not see the humor in it. Nana & I thought it was funny.
My Nana will be 79 years old the end of this month. When my mom called and told me she broke her hip, I didn't want to believe her at first. But, sure enough she did. She came off of a step wrong and lost her balance and fell right on her hip. She said it was EXTREMELY painful! I'm grateful she's on the mend. I was Nana's first grandchild and stayed with her a lot during my childhood. She had a pool, and we spent our summers in her pool. That's where my older boys and Charley all learned to swim. Nana taught them all.
We had a nice visit at Summit Square. I told Charley if she had to put me in a home one day to put me there. They have beautiful landscaping and these cute little cottages, and some rooms even have balconies to sit on. Charley was very much a "Nurse Goodbody." She was very attentive of Nana and wanted to get everything Nana needed while we were there. Noah wanted to play with her exercise bands and wanted her to hold him. She was upset she couldn't. I told her he would be fine. When we were leaving, we saw a room that had 2 beds pushed together and 2 lift chairs side by side. I told Charley to do that for Dad & I 😊. I had not been in a skilled facility since my Granddaddy died when I was 15 years old (1995). The smell brought back a lot of memories. Overall, we had a good visit.
When I was almost home, my mom called and told me that Nana's "man" had passed away today. That's what we called Winfield. "Nana's man." My nana's heart is broken. She was at his daughter's house when she fell. He came to see her every day in the hospital and at Summit Square. Today was his birthday too. She had him a gift and my mom had made turtle brownies for them to enjoy. Garrett met me to get the little kids and I went back. They had told her by the time I got there. If you could, please keep my Nana, as well as Winfield's daughter and granddaughter in your prayers. I know they would appreciate it. He made my Nana happy. We would pick on her and tell her she giggled like a schoolgirl when she was with him. We were all very thankful for that though. So, say I love you to your people. My mom said it best, you might put your shoes on this morning, but none of us are promised WE will be the ones to take them off tonight.
Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,
McKession
