Self-care
It's nail day
I color my own hair, sorry Megan
I have not always taken care of myself. There were many, many years I was young, raising 2 boys and barely making ends meet, so self-care was not feasible. Probably when I turned 30, I would say I started to pay more attention to self-care. When I turned 40, I decided I was going to make it a "priority." I am still in the throes of raising little kids and time is of the essence for me. Now, when I say self-care, I don't mean I spend hundreds of dollars on myself. I mean I save my tip money and go get my nails done. I go to TJ Maxx for "wrinkle cream" and Collagen (and any other new skin care cream I can find.) I own my own business, we live on a farm, the list goes on and on; just like it does for you too, I'm sure. But I have come to find that if I take care of myself, I am better able to take care of my responsibilities.
I listen to a lot of self-help and self-improvement books. Sometimes too many if I'm being honest, but they have helped me become more aware of how important it is to take care of me too. When I feel good, it feels good. One book I listened to by Crystal Paine (I cannot remember which one, I've heard a few) she says you need to dress for the day you want to have. On the weekends, I dress like a homeless person you would probably say. I don't want to leave my house, so that's ok for me. That's the day I want to have 😀.
The point of this blog is take care of you. Then you can better take care of others. Even if it's painting your own nails, putting on a face mask and washing your hair (a little back story... I only wash my hair once a week. I know it sounds gross but ask your hairdresser how often you should wash your hair. Dry shampoo becomes your bestie. I can wash my hair on Sunday and make it last until the following weekend. I HATE to get my hair wet. I have curly hair, I flat iron it on wash day and only have to do a little touch up during the week. I love that!!!) I want you to know YOU are important! Just as important as those you love.
Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,
McKession
