December...the month of holiday cheer.
I'm so tired ya'll!
I cannot believe it's December already. In 29 short days it will be 2024. I must be getting old because I cannot believe that. It feels like this year has gone by so fast when you look at it like that.
I was filling out my calendar for this month and like everyone else it is full every weekend. It makes me tired to look at it. Speaking of tired, this week I have been SO TIRED! I was off Thursday and Friday but had full days both days. This weekend is no different. I have been trying to get up early every morning for extra quiet time, but by about Wednesday I'm too tired to get up at 5:00, so it's usually 5:30. I'm trying to find balance in doing what I need to do in my home and for my people and getting enough rest. It's a work in progress.
While I love Christmas and the joy it brings, it's stressful. Every year I say I'm going to do better and buy gifts throughout the year or save money so that I'm not stressed-out Christmas shopping; but of course, that never happens. I love gift giving! I love gift giving all year and when I find a gift for someone, I want to give it to them right now. It's hard for me to hold onto a good gift I have for someone until Christmas. This year will be more fun with Noah. He will be 2 three days after Christmas, and he loves getting into everything. He doesn't play with a lot of toys, so I'm struggling with what to get him. The older boys are hard to buy for too. I saw a clip from a podcast where the girl did not do Christmas because her kids got things all year long. I thought that was a GREAT idea. Let's just be together. I'm not sure my kids would appreciate that way of thinking though. I'm more into giving them experiences than gifts, spending time with them, doing things with them. They will remember those experiences vs. what gift they got. Do you remember what you got for Christmas when you were 9 or 17 or 22? Me neither.
I titled this blog the month of holiday cheer and it doesn't sound very cheerful. I apologize. December is a magical month. It's full of Christmas spirit and anticipation and all the excitement of Christmas. For me it's about spending time with family. Celebrating the birth of Jesus. Hopefully I will get some rest and not be so exhausted. I hope you all have a wonderful week! 💖
P.S. The Middlebrook Christmas parade is tomorrow (Sunday, 12/3/23) at 4:00 p.m.. If you are able, come out, it's a really fun time!
Wishing you sunny skies and green pastures,
McKession
